filling a bathtub with the substance, throwing the person you hate the most in the tub and throwing the ice cube in the tub right after …. it would be over
such evil minds in this place
Actually, no, it wouldn’t be fatal at all. This is known as hot ice, and it technically isn’t ice at all. It’s Sodium Acetate Trihydrate, which is normally a white crystalline substance, and commonly used in heat packs due to the fact that it generates heat.
Normally, it melts at 58 degrees celsius, so naturally it would begin to crystallize at those temperatures as well. But it is possible to cool a liquid past it’s normal freezing temperature, and still remain a liquid (provided it is free of impurities and is not agitated). This is called supercooling, and you can do it with water as well.
So this gif demonstrates what happens when a supercooled liquid is agitated, and the molecules rapidly begin to form crystals. The problem is, the crystals form so rapidly that they fall apart, and the result is basically ice slush. So putting somebody in it would be a minor inconvenience at best.
If you could even get a bathtub full at all, since the home method of distilling sodium acetate trihydrate is inefficient and actually creates a brown or tannish liquid, and not clear. Not to mention the fact that you’d have to dissolve the crystals inside the bathtub (as pouring the liquid causes it to refreeze), keep it free of impurities like dust, and not ever touch it.
Too much work, too little margin of error, too little payout.
Actually no it’s just really cold water, it’s literally nothing else.
That’s so fucking cool
I still can’t get over this!
